Board Members

The PAMA Board includes professionals from major publishing houses, advertising agencies, and print media.

Officers

President

David Nudo is currently Director of Sales and Marketing for Shelfari, a popular consumer social networking site for book lovers. He was formerly the Vice President, Publisher of Publishers Weekly. Previously, he was Managing Director, Book Advertising, for the New York Times for over three years. Prior to this, he has held various roles in advertising sales working with book publishers in a career which includes 10 earlier years at Publishers Weekly, 3 years at The New Republic and 1 year at Bookstream.com.

Vice-President

Jessica Wiener is the Associate Director of Advertising and Promotion at Hyperion Books. Before that, she was the advertising manager at Scholastic, and an account executive at the now defunct Ziccardi & Partners, where she worked with clients ranging from Random House and Miramax Books to Madame Alexander, F.I.T., and Departures Magazine. She has been on the PAMA board since 2002.

Treasurer

Melissa Lord is the Director of Advertising for the Bantam Dell Publishing Group. She began her career more than twelve years ago at Dell Publishing (in the pre-merger days), and from there explored the various sides of the advertising business with jobs at Columbia University Press, Spier New York, The New Republic, and The New York Times. When not reading voraciously, Melissa enjoys playing the violin and riding her bike.

Secretary

Christine Duplessis is a marketing manager at Simon & Schuster, responsible for the Atria, Washington Square Press, Downtown Press, Strebor, and Beyond Words imprints. She began her career at HarperCollins as an ad/promo assistant, and then spent 5 years in marketing at Penguin Books and Penguin Classics, most recently as Senior Marketing Manager. Christine is from Rhode Island and is the youngest of five girls, and will happily discuss either topic with the slightest bit of provocation.


Directors

Christian Toth spent four years at Shakespeare & Co. Booksellers (rising from clerk to assistant buyer) and one year teaching at a private high school before landing at Verso Advertising (née Bennett Book Advertising) in 1997. Now a senior account executive, he enjoys working with Bantam and Norton while supervising Anchor/Vintage and Pantheon. (He enjoys his other accounts too, but he's sensitive to word count restrictions.)

Lori J. McCarthy is currently a Senior Account Executive at Spier New York and has been with the agency since 2000. Prior to Spier, she worked in marketing/publicity for book publishers including Dutton, St. Martin's Press, and Time Warner Trade Publishing.

Elizabeth Hanslik is currently the Director of Advertising and Promotion for several Penguin imprints including the Berkley Publishing Group, New American Library, and The Penguin Press. She has worked for Penguin Group (USA) for eight years and has been involved in marketing a vast range of books, from Nora Roberts to Zadie Smith to The Kite Runner.

Roberta Reissman is an Advertising Sales Representative for USA TODAY. She is a 22 year veteran in their Ad Sales Department and she has worked on the Book category since the launch of USA TODAY’s Best Selling Books List in 1993.

Jason Britton is an account executive at Verso Advertising, working on both children's and adult publishing accounts. He previously held editorial positions at Publishers Weekly and HarperCollins Children's Books.

Gretchen Swartley was invited to her first PAMA cocktail party while interning for the Berkley/NAL marketing department.  After attending the Columbia Publishing Course, she spent three years in marketing at Penguin's Plume & Hudson Street imprints.  In 2005, she joined HarperCollins as Advertising and Promotion Manager overseeing in-house advertising for all imprints and promotion for Harper Paperbacks.

Laura Sonnenfeld is the Advertising Director of Books at The New York Times. She began her career selling advertising at The New Yorker, from there she held account manager and management positions at Child, Good Housekeeping and Victoria Magazine. She has been at The Times since 1998.

Stephanie Kloss is the advertising director of Alfred A. Knopf. She plans Knopf’s ad campaigns and writes and designs their print and online advertisements. Prior to working at Knopf, Stephanie lived in Toronto and worked for one of Canada’s largest marketing and communication firms where she developed and managed sales conferences, product launches and print campaigns for clients like Pfizer, Kraft and TD Bank.


Past PAMA Presidents

Lauren Hoffman is Executive Director, Advertising, Promotions, and Marketing Operations for HarperCollins Children's Books. Prior to HarperCollins Lauren held positions at St. Martin's Press and Simon and Schuster.

Danielle Dell'Olio began her publishing career in 1995 within the Alfred A. Knopf Group at Random House, Inc. and remained there in various ascending marketing positions until 2006. Formally Director of Advertising and Promotion at Pantheon Books, Danielle is now busy as a freelance marketing specialist working within our publishing community.
