April Luncheon

The Doubletree Hotel
Lexington at 51st Street
We’ll focus on blogs—an essential source for information and opinions, especially so in this election year.
Henry Copeland, founder and president of BlogAds, will talk about the whys and hows of advertising on blogs, the increasingly popular websites run by hyperliterate pundits. He'll cover why it’s imperative, how to build a campaign, how to decipher rates, the best sites for your books, how to engage bloggers and consumers, what content creates a good response, what to link to, and how to keep the viral momentum going.

Perspectives from Publishing Veteran Laurence Kirshbaum on Book Marketing: Why has it gotten so much harder, and is there anything we can do about it?
The Doubletree Hotel on Lexington at 51st, 12:30.
Larry Kirshbaum has spent almost his entire adult life associated with publishing. After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1966, he started as a back-of-the-books business and culture reporter working for Newsweek, and co-authored a book Is the Library Burning?, a study of student protest, published by Random House in 1969. He took a leap into the sales and marketing world when he left journalism and went to work in the Random House sales department in 1970. (He had the unique privilege of remaindering his own book.) He moved to a fledgling paperback company called Warner Paperback Library in 1974 and stayed there (with a brief detour to Conde Nast) for more than 30 years as the company grew from $5 million to over $500 million in sales. He founded the LJK Literary Agency at the beginning of 2005 and has found life on the “dark side” to be very bright, but he misses his old colleagues and still believes that publishers are the most wonderful people on earth, especially when they give his authors nice advances.
